“C” Culpepper, the Chair of Rising Phoenix Performers, has a Bachelor of Music Education, in Vocal Music, from Ithaca College.
She has experience teaching choral music in the school system, in communities, and privately for many years, focusing on singing. With other local musicians, she has performed at the Reston-Herndon Folk Club.
For several years she sang with and directed the Herndon Towne Square Singers and led the music committee of ArtSpace Herndon, starting an Open Mic Night and offering singalong movie nights of shows like “The Wizard of Oz” and “Grease.” In 2013, “C” and Michele Koros, of the Sun Dance Performance Company, partnered with the Herndon Senior Center to provide 3 song and dance shows a year, which is how she started the Sun Dance Singers. The Sun Dance Singers now perform as the Rising Phoenix Singers under her direction and are branching out to include singalongs and mini-musicals at area senior centers and senior living communities.
She lives in Herndon, Virginia, with her husband Chuck, who sings in the Rising Phoenix Singers and offers technical and sound assistance for the shows.
